Brené Brown defines spirituality as recognizing and celebrating that we are all inextricably connected to each other by a power greater than all of us, and that our connection to that power and to one another is grounded in love and compassion. Practicing spirituality brings a sense of perspective, meaning, and purpose to our lives.
Spirituality, religion and faith are three very different ways of viewing our world. I am a very spiritual person because I have people constantly tell me I am one of the most spiritual people they have ever known. I am in tune to what they are feeling and thinking. I’m told by people that they feel warmth and harmony around me. At times, they feel like they are hit with electricity when I touch them. Hence my artwork above.
That’s what it was like for me when I had my spiritual awakening. A bolt of energy ignited my inner flame when my time to be in tune with this world came to pass. I had the flame in me, I just needed the world energy to turn it into a beacon, and that is what I have become… a Beacon. Of hope, light, love, honesty, compassion, beauty. These are the words I have people tell me I have brought into their lives. I do not need faith to keep me going or continue to believe in what I am. I know well who and what I am and what I mean to the world.
Religion is a means to control the masses. Jesus hung around with people who would not be allowed inside a church in this day and age. Now… read that sentence one more time!!! Jesus was Jewish and he wasn’t in a church, a temple, a synagogue or other religious building. He was walking through the streets interacting with beggars, prostitutes, leppers, drug addicts, alcoholics and any number of societies outcasts. Most often, those who needed a touch of grace and happiness even just for a moment. We should all strive to be like the historical Jesus, not the biblical one that is made to be seen as “the only way to God and Heaven”. Neither of which I believe in. I do NOT believe in the “Christian” God. From what I have read in the Bible, God is cruel, merciless, unwilling to forgive and cares nothing about what he “supposedly” created. If mankind is created in God’s image… what does that say about what God is like? God kills, destroys, stirs up evil, allows others to starve, allows liars to go unpunished, allows murderers to be forgiven, and allows children to suffer for no reason at all. Is that truly a God that you feel is worth believing in?
I believe in the energy that binds humanity. I believe we are all pure energy and from pure energy we were created. It’s in our DNA. Everyone of us is unique. Identical twins are not 100% copies of each other. Humanity is made up of millions of years of evolution and we have so much we could achieve if we just listened to the guiding spirits and our ancestors that have gone before us and are trying to speak to us and help guide us. I listen. I hear them. I live, love and learn everyday. I try to be kind, compassionate, honest and open. No one is perfect, not even Jesus, and that is what it means to be human. Do stupid shit so you learn from your mistakes. Do you remember, as a child, if you made a mistake you didn’t just forget about it? The event meant something to you in heart, mind and spirit. Now, as an adult, our mistakes of course are on a larger scale. However, we now, as adults, have the capacity to learn from each mistake in a much deeper and powerful way. Build your Beacon!!!
My spirituality burns deep inside my soul and I have had many times in my life where I wanted to jump off a bridge but didn’t. Currently, I am battling breast cancer. This will now be over a dozen major medical traumas and events in my life that I have had to endure and yet, here I am. I’m needed here so that each day if even one person needs just a smile, I will be the one to give it to them.
ALWAYS smile at a child. Let them know that the world is good and full of happiness. Listen to your inner voice. It’s there for a reason. It shapes who you are, who your friends and family are and how the world will be.
Do not give up on humanity… we still have time…
