Like, Stop Saying Like!

Like really, Like no way, Like wow, Like STOP SAYING LIKE! The overuse of this word in excess by generations X,Y,Z, and Millennials has completely destroyed the English language in America. This word is allowed to be used in proper sentences and paragraphs when writing assignments and taking tests in our schools because the previous mentioned generations cannot speak or write without it! I have also been informed it is allowed to be used when giving a speech!!!
Can you imagine Kamala Harris saying, "Like,
I totally agree with Biden. He's like the smartest man."? OF COURSE NOT!!! I feel, however, this is the direction our country is going.
I think I'm Gen X? I was born in the late 70's. That being said, my Mother and Grandparents expected me to speak properly from a young age. I was taught proper English when I first started to speak and this has helped to broaden my way of problem solving, interviewing and the way I express myself. I feel that people who use the word "like" too much sound unintelligent. I want to ask, "Can you not come up with a better way to explain your thoughts without using THAT word!"

Have you ever heard British adults AND children speak? They are well spoken, polite, use full sentences and express full ideas. It is not just royalty but all children in Britain. I have heard British children speak in videos or on TV and they have an incredible vocabulary. Could it possibly be because they do not use; like, um; uh; for sure; totally, or any other words that stunt the growth of a child's vocabulary? One does not have to have a high IQ to speak properly. A higher level of expectation is what is needed; at home and in our school system here in America. I feel we have become lazy in the US. I feel a heavy weight expressed from people when they have to use the proper English language. I grew up with it. It is obvious when I meet someone who did not.

Children learn by example. Please for the sake of the future of this country, take the use of this word out of your mouths so we are not described as "stupid Americans" by the rest of the world. I promise you, that is how we are perceived. Also, Ivy League schools are starting to take a firm stand on how an incoming student interviews as opposed to how they look on paper. You may want to start working on proper speaking as early as possible. LIKE NOW!
