The most important invention in my lifetime is the Personal Home Computer. I remember when I started using computers in the 4th grade (around 1986) I was fascinated and hooked! We were learning how to make a "turtle" move by entering "code". As the years went on and I entered Jr. High and High School, Computers became essential to research, typing composition papers, and looking up free time information. In college was when the Myspace/Facebook craze started! I believe this to be the start of the downfall of students doing well in college and graduating. I would be in class watching students on their cell phones (another invention) instead of listening to our professor. I then watched them fail test after test and eventually the class altogether. I did not go to college till I was 29 so I had much appreciated, gratitude and a burning need to do well. I was fascinating to see youngsters who just graduated high school that could not write a complete sentence or paragraph. I believed they had become too dependent on computers to do these things for them. I’m going to amend my answer to the presented blog question. I think the home PC is the worst invention and will lead to the downfall of humanity. Why waste time learning cursive writing or writing at all when you can type out what you want or just use emojis? Even now as I type this blog, am I really benefiting from it? I believe I am because I still use the standards of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling with minimal the assistance of a computer. I’m also presenting my thoughts and view in a collective place for other people to find and enjoy. That is my hope. I completely type out what I want to convey. Only then do I take it to my Microsoft Word (Yet another great invention) to help me spruce up the little things I may have missed. I will brag, they are few and far between. In the past, one of the most important inventions was the printing press. Instead of word of mouth or a telegram taking hours to write and type up, and weeks to receive, one could now have the speed of the news in the form of a bulk paper printed for anyone to buy off the street. HOW AMAZING! This has of course led to the gossiping of humanity in the form of the paparazzi. They are paid for the pics of celebs, and they trample and embarrass whomever they can to get that “shot” worth a month’s paycheck for some. Maybe these inventions haven’t been so important?
