Right vs. Easy

Miss Kat J Phillips

Do I have any favourite quotes? Of course I do! I have so many that picking a favorite is as difficult as “choosing a favourite star in the heavens”(Danielle from the movie “Ever After). A very famous quote from Martin Luther King Jr. reads, “There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.” A simpler form of this quote was spoken by Roy T. Bennett, “Do what is right, not what is easy.” That is what I have strived to do in my life. This way of thinking has earned me many hardships and sacrifices but the rewards, I believe, have been greater. When I write, whether it be poetry or prose, I like to write about honourable means of expression. What I feel is the “right way” of doing or expressing and not the “easy way”. I will not “dumb down” my writings because a lack of gain would exist if I were to do so. I tend to think on a higher level, however arrogant that sounds. I wish to maintain and even exceed my limits of my mind. Consciously think on a subconscious level while maintaining my daily life and accountability processes. Can this be done?

“I see what others refuse to see.” © 2011 Kat J Phillips A favourite quote of my own that I often reference when making a decision in my life. It serves as a reminder that nothing can be gained by taking the well-worn path. Robert Frost wrote, “Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” My love of these words is immeasurable by humans. The words resonate through to my very core and I live them every second of my life. Every situation and decision I am facing or will face in my life will come down to one evolutionary question; what have those before me not done? I also consider how I could approach my circumstances in a way that is right and just while allowing for my own growth and evolution. I have one aspect in my life I do try to avoid and it can be summed up in one of my own simple quotes. “Cry all you will, in those shoes you cannot fill.” ©2014 Kat J Phillips I believe this quote helps me remember to avoid stagnation and I use this quote as a reminder. The only way of getting through a situation is to be in the moment completely and accept that situations HAVE to change in order to grow. “Cry as much as you like, but you have outgrown your current shoes and you must remove your feet… and move on.” Every day is another opportunity to move forward, up and over our universe of obstacles. How many unrelenting obstacles can you conquer in a lifetime? I would like mine to number in the tens of millions!    ©2021 Kat J Phillips https://www.instagram.com/katjphillips_poetry/

I See

I see… what others refuse to see

I am… what others refuse to be

I live… what others choose to ignore

I can… when others refuse the chore

I will… what others turn their backs on

I try… what others fear to bank on

I walk… where others fear to tread

I stand… when others hide their head

I free… what others try to hinder

I look… when others refuse the splendor

I see… what others refuse to see

I see… because I choose to be
